Hydrocele Surgery

Hi,
My 2 1/2 year old son is due to have hydrocele surgery in two weeks' time at B/ham Childrens Hospital. Has anyone had any experience of this with their child? Would especially like to know what their recovery was like, any pain afterwards, sleepiness, returning to nursery etc. My son is also still in nappies and I'm concerned that this may cause him problems (have tried with potty training but he's just not ready yet).
Thanks

Hi there, 2 of my ds have had this op done. Thats 3 ops altogether as DS2 had to have both sides done (solved the problem with one then it recurred on the other side.) We have had no problems with any of the ops. Each time we came home in the afternoon and they didn't complain about any pain etc (just gave regular calpol) and they were a bit sleepy for the first day. DS2 was 2 when he had the first op and was still in nappies and it didn't cause any problems. Just had to watch where the cut from the op was, which is only about 1.5cm and soon heals. Last summer we went on holiday 2 weeks after with no problems. I think each time they've just had a week off nursery/pre school. Hope all goes well.
