When did your toddler go into a bed?

Here is the problem, I have a 15 month old, and I think she has probably no more than 4 months left in her cot - because she is so tall! It is a cot rather than cot bed.

I would rather keep her in the cot for now, if only to restrain her! But wondering when you put yours into a bed. Should I just buy a bigger cotbed, or will it be time for a bed by then? Also, did you go for a toddler type bed or straight to a single bed?

Or shall I just make her scrunch her knees up for a bit Grin

thanks

DD was 22 months when she went into her own bed, this was mainly because DS2 was due 6 months later and I wanted her to forget the cot was hers before he got it :)
I put her into a toddler bed which is supposed to last until they are around 6yrs (depending on height) I prefered this as I thought she would be lost in a single bed and might find it scary. I bought it from Friday Ads for £30, bargain!!!

I'd probably get a cotbed if you don't want to take the sides off yet. They last until 5-7 years, so probably by the time she grew out of it in height/length she'll be 4 or 5 at least.

dd went into a full sized single just before she turned 2. DS stayed in his cot till he was 2 1/2 - also went into a single bed. Saves buying another bed in a few years time

Mine went from co sleeping to a bed, just before their second birthday.

Both dc1 and dc2 stayed in a cot until they were 3. Both were perfectly happy so we left them! Our cot is 1m20cm and the dc were nowhere near that tall. How tall is your LO?

Thanks for posting this MPT - I had the exact same thought this morning when I woke up to find my 15mo DS stood up hanging out of his cot trying to climb/jump/fly onto the nearby chest of drawers. Aaaaargh!!! Not sure if we are on the lowest setting yet - but we may need to have a think of an alternative pretty soon. Looking forward to the replies!

All of mine went into a single bed at around the 15-18 months mark. Started off by removing the cot side and putting a folded up double duvet along the side just in case of roll outs and then putting them into their new beds. All of them took to it like ducks to water.

mine went to toddler bed at 2. They both could understand that it was 'big girl bed' and were very happy to move into it. I never had a problem with them getting out of it. They get single beds around 3.

But, forgot to say, we had a large cot, with high sides. Bought in US, and seemed to be much larger than the ones we see in shops here. So I didn't have the problem with kids trying to get out of the cot when they were younger.

my ds1 was in a cotbed anyway, but took the sides off @ 20 months as he started climbing over it. he is still in it without the sides now at nearly 3 but will be getting a normal single bed soon as i feel he would b better with more space. ds2 is in a baby sized cot so will give the cotbed to him, he is 16 months and tall but i feel he is okay in the cot for now. will move him in a couple of months as need the little cot for new baby anyway
if you think she hasn't got much room could put her in a cotbed so you can keep the sides on, but then if she is very tall i think you might want to put her in a single bed after another yr or yr and a half anyway

Mine were both two when they went into toddler beds. DD1 went because DD2 was due, and she was fine. DD2 did the same because someone gave me a free toddler bed. 14 months sounds too young, unless you want to put her on a futon that is near to the floor, or perhaps a toddler bed with sides.

Given the choice I would leave it until she actually outgrows it though.

DD went into a normal single bed around 2.6. We moved from Muscat to Bangkok and I didn't want to take a cot with us.
Initially I put the mattress on the floor in case she rolled out, once I'd got my bearings a bit I bought her a set of railings.
She loved her big girl bed.

Both mine were super climbers so were in beds by 13 months. There were no problems at all.
