Train Songs

Is this about parenting? Not sure. Anyway, every time I pipe up with a tune, ds fixes me with a basilisk glare and demands 'more CHOO CHOOS'. I don't know many train songs. Can you help with words and/or tunes? Is there a tape in existence of '41 Traditional Train Songs?' If not please could somebody produce one??

ones I know:
Early in the morning down at the station all the little puffa trains stand in a row
Chattanooga Choo Choo
She'll be coming round the mountain

"The runaway train"?

WigWamBam · 08/11/2005 10:34

The runaway train came down the track and she blew,
The runaway train came down the track and she blew,
The runaway train came down the track, her whistle wide and her throttle back,
And she blew, blew, blew, blew, blew.

The engineer said the train must halt and she blew,
The engineer said the train must halt and she blew,
The engineer said the train must halt -- he said it was all the fireman's fault,
And she blew, blew, blew, blew, blew.

The fireman said he rang the bell and she blew,
The fireman said he rang the bell and she blew,
The fireman said he rang the bell -- the engineer said "You did like h*!"
And she blew, blew, blew, blew, blew.

The porter got an awful fright and she blew,
The porter got an awful fright and she blew,
The porter got an awful fright -- he got so scared he near turned white,
And she blew, blew, blew, blew, blew.

A donkey was standing in the way and she blew,
A donkey was standing in the way and she blew,
A donkey was standing in the way and all they found was just his bray,
And she blew, blew, blew, blew, blew.

The conductor said there'd be a wreck and she blew,
The conductor said there'd be a wreck and she blew,
The conductor said there'd be a wreck and he felt the chills run up his neck,
And she blew, blew, blew, blew, blew.

The runaway train went over the hill and she blew,
The runaway train went over the hill and she blew,
The runaway train went over the hill and the last we heard she was going still,
And she blew, blew, blew, blew, blew.

there are thomas the tank engine song books - the sort that you press a button and they play a tinny electronic "song" - maybe that would help?

Morningtown Ride

Train whistle blowin', makes a sleepy noise
Underneath their blankets go all the girls and boys
Rockin', Rollin', Ridin', out along the bay
All bound for Morningtown, many miles away

Driver at the engine, Fireman rings the bell
Sandman swings the lantern to say that all is well
Rockin', Rollin', Ridin', out along the bay
All bound for Morningtown, many miles away

Maybe it is raining where our train will ride
All the little trave'lers are warm and snug in-side
Rockin', Rollin', Ridin', out along the bay
All bound for Morningtown, many miles a-way

Somewhere there is sunshine, somewhere there is day
Somewhere there is Morningtown, many miles away
Rockin', Rollin', Ridin', out along the bay
All bound for Morningtown, many miles away

All bound for Morningtown, many miles away

Time flies by when you're the driver of a train-- from Trumpton or Chigley or the other one. The words were posted on here a while ago. It's a railway classic.

'Choo Choo' by the Arctic Monkeys:

My baby wants to drive the train
But don't you let her, don't you let her touch the tracks
I said my baby wants to drive the train
Well all aboard yeah, and don't forget to mind the gap
Don't you let her, don't you know
She's sick and tired of
Being in the background, the passenger
Let her drive the train, oh!

Choo Choo!
Why don't you let her drive the train?
Choo Choo!
Why don't you let her drive the train, yeah

She's setting off from platform four
Make your way down, we'll shut the door bout quarter to five
I said she's setting off from platform four
And they've decided that they're gonna let her drive

Don't you let her, don't you know
She's sick and tired of
Being in the background, the passenger
Let her drive the train, oh!

Choo Choo!
Why don't you let her drive the train, oh...
Choo Choo!
Why don't you let her drive my train, yeah

Choo Choo!
Choo Choo!
Choo Choo!
Choo Choo!

Casey Jones but not much use if you don't know the tune!

acnebride · 08/11/2005 11:04

No that's great LM because DH knows the tune - but he only sings it 'Casey Jones - doo doo doo doo la la' which doesn't cut the mustard for ds who is a hard taskmaster in these matters.

this one is a bit silly but my childrne like it.

it's sort of a train rhythm, of a menu backwards.

start slowly and get faster with each verse

coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee
cheese and biscuits (x4)
fruit and custard (x4)
beef and carrots (x4)
fish and chips (x8, very fast)
SOOOOOUUUUUUPPP!!!!! (loud and slow, like a whistle)

can you tell i used to be a brownie? we used to sing a lot of very silly songs which i am dredging out of my memory now

dc i'm proud to say i learned the thomas theme tune off the video, and it goes:

They're two, they're four, they're six, they're eight
Shunting trucks and hauling freight
Red and brown and green and blue
They're the Really Useful Crew
Each with their own role to play
Round Tidmouth Sheds or far away
Down the hill and round the bends
Thomas and his friends

pant pant exhausted from typing all those apostrophes but got to keep the grammar end up

OP posts:
spots · 09/11/2005 20:34

We do one that goes:

I like riding on a choo, choo, choo, choo,
I like listening to the shoo, shoo, shoo,
When the doors go - SLAM! (Clap hands)
And the whistle goes - WOO-WOO! (finger in air)

I like riding on a choo, choo, choo.

Well, I know not much use if you don't know the tune but perhaps you might have some distant memory of it and this sparks off recognition!

Get the tape called "cars trains and aeroplanes from ELC"

its great and has lots of car train and aeroplane songs (surprisingly)

TBH its one of my favourite childrens nursary rhyme tape songs as many are just a little different!
