Do Mother & Toddler Groups welcome mothers & babies?

I have a toddler but she is at Pre-school the days on which toddler groups take place in my village. I'm new to the area and would like to at least become acquainted with some local mothers. I have a 7 week old baby. Will it be odd for me to just turn up with the baby or is Mother & Toddler generally seen as a euphemism for 'Parents and under 5s'?

Beatie, I'm sure you will be very welcome with your baby. I've done this with mine and I've seen a lot of mums with tiny babies attending these sessions. Infact, it's a life saver! Go for it!

you will be made most welcome im sure

all m&t groups i have been to have babies from birth to toddlers and aged 4, they will have babies toys and playmats

plus if you have a tiny baby all the other mothers will coo and you will make loads of friends very quickly!

im asure you will be very welcome, and meet lots of nice mums with tiny babies (who may have older siblings there!) and thus make some good freinds.... and potential friends for your baby once he or she is old enough!

Go you will be fine. Ours has a corner set aside for babies and we are always overrun with them it'd brill. I love seeing babies there and you don't have to start conversations either as everyone will speak to you.

Yes, it is a euphemism for Parents and under 5's. Plenty of mums with babies (and no older sibling in tow) at my toddler group

anniebear · 08/11/2005 14:03

yes!!

I used to go with my twin girls when they were babies

They are usually for under 5's

I think its the best age to take them, you get out, have a cuppa and hopefully meet other Mums and the baby gets used to it

I looked after a little girl who was 2 and a half and took her to a toddler group, she was petrified as she had never been taken to one before and clung to me for weeks!!

I run our local M & T group - and babies are a big part of it!! We have a separate area/toys for them, so the older children don't knock them over etc. Where are you?

clary · 08/11/2005 14:20

ooh yes we all love babies at our M & T. They are our lifeblood after all (because they grow into toddlers when our toddlers have gone to school!)

Thanks for all the positive encouragement. I will go and give it a go. When I had my dd1 I went to groups which were specifically for mums and babies - breastfeeding support, bumps and babies and a 1st time mums group. There's nothing like that around here so I wondered where all the mums with new babies must go!
