Dissertation referencing help please

I'm normally pretty damn good a referencing and in all work up to now I have always recieved an excellent rating for it.

However, now this is for my dissertation I am questioning myself a bit and all the guidance out there tends to contradict itself. So it falls to you lovely lot to help me decide how to do it!

Large quote (approx 5 lines long) I need it all and I have already trimmed it down as much as possible. How do I feature it in the text?

At the moment I have it as a stand alone paragraph, indented 1cm at both sides and italicised it! Something is telling me that this is too much and if I have seperated it and indented it the italics are not needed, but I'm not sure.

Opinions please! Grin

Italics not needed for a separated quotation, or indeed for any quotation. Italics are only for when you want to emphasise something.

Pretty sure you should have double spacing for your diss (or 1.5), but block quotes should be single spaced. That visually separates the quotation from your arguments.

Yes: single-spaced, indented, no italics, no quotemarks. Usually the cut-off point for treating quotations in this way is a minimum length of 40--60 words (the minimum varies between publishers)

Indented, no italics, I think 1.5 spacing. As I remember, the word count for indented quotes is 45 words.

My Uni had an online booklet for this sort of thing - in the resources for students bit. I know saome do it differently to thers, but a lot use the Harvard system.
