Advice on toddler play dates!

hi, my dd is 22 months and is quite small (25 th centile but normal height). So when she falls she tends to hurt herself- she has been walking since 11 months so she's very stable and rarely falls. Anyway I regularly meet with other mums and their toddlers ( who are mostly a month or 2 younger but bigger than dd). The problem is they all want to hug her a lot, which is Lovley but she ends up being wrestled to the ground and gets upset.

She is really friendly and sociable but gets really upset when this happens a few times. How should I react/ should I react? I currently pick her up and try to distract/ explain they didn't mean it? That hugs are nice?

Tia
