Yes, our son was 1 and a half when he had the op, the dr said no vaccinations for 4/5 weeks before and after the op, as his immune system would have enough to do healing his body. although we live in germany, the rules might be different here.
the initial healing took 4-5 days of lying down on the bed, they tied him onto the bed and weighted him down so he couldn't tear stitches or dislodge his testicles from their new place!
Hope all goes well

My ds had op at 1. [No tying down to bed as everything neat and tidy under nappy!]. He was a bit bruised and had calpol etc prescribed for a few days afterwards. Went home same day as the operation and was his normal self immediately. Running around straight away. Just told not to let him ride on baby trikes etc as may hurt. Had appointment with specialist nurse 6 months later to check testes still down and due another one at age 2. ALL WENT WELL.
As for MMR I don't know. We delayed it until afterwards but not on medical advice. Ring hospital and check? Hope all goes well.

Also stitches minimal. They did mainly internal stitching so nothing to fiddle with.

Please don't worry about op too much. Undescended testes relatively common medically. I am surprised they have waited until he is 3 as we were told ds would have op at 1 year when he was 3 weeks old [unless descended itself].
I think you may have had more responses if you mentioned operation in your post. Also maybe try 'health'.

thanks 2boys2loud for your reply we only found out last year when he was over 2 that he had undescended testes and docs never picked up on it it was when i thought somethin were'nt right went to docs and the doc said he was fine but my mum said to go and get 2nd opinion which i did and that 2nd doc refered him straight away he went to see consultant who passed him on to another consultant we have been dealing with this for near 9mths now and his opp is nxt wk the surgeon whos doin opp had a cancellation so its now instead of in june has said its ok that he had mmr this wk it was a booster shot so hope its ok! hes got to have a laproscopy because they only found one testicle in the groin and they think hes got a hernia aswell they goin to be doin this all at same time so am really worried about it just hope it all goes well thanks again x

My son also had to have camera in to try and find teste. Tiny cut just above groin area - all internal stitching. I was impressed at how small the stitching areas were and how very quickly ds recovered. He was allowed home after he had had something to drink and had done a wee.
Try not to worry [hard I know. I'm a worrier!]. It will be a huge relief for YOU when it is over - was for me!
Let us know how it all goes. x

Hi par05 -don't panic!
My ds had one testicle down and the other no where to be seen. We were told that may not be viable if they did find it but that boys develop absolutely normally with 1 testes. We were told the length of the op would depend on what they found - eg no testicle quick/low down not too long/ higher up maybe a bit longer. They found it quite low down and it seemed to have a good blood supply. They fix it into place and you go back to clinic in 3 months to check it is 'growing' ok - be prepared for it to be a bit smaller than the other one as takes time to recover from being in the wrong place. We were also given a phone number if we had questions or concerns.
We are due another check up soon - a year after op - again to check all is where it should be. Think it is!! [To my untrained eye seems smaller than other but don't think that is a concern].
It is a huge relief to get op over with. I know I stressed about the starving before op bit but it was ok. Take books and favourite toys in case have to wait awhile. [Also tempting drink and food for after op].
Remember before the op they tend to give you all scenarios - best and worst. Thats just what hospitals do so try not to worry too much.
Very good luck for tomorrow and I hope it goes smoothly.
Keep me posted.
xx

Hi, no advice re the MMR but wanted to wish you luck. My DS had the same op at 9 months and also a hernia repair. He's now 21 months and although I was quite shocked by the size of the cut in his groin it's now pretty much invisible and everything is where it should be. One small thing I will mention that happened with us was they put an internal stitch into the sac to keep the testicle in place, I think it must have pulled a little bit as it looked like the testicle was going back up again - queue massive panic from me, took him straight to the GP who said the op had failed and the testicle would need to be removed. When I took him back to the urologist a few days later in floods of tears he said he didn't know what the GP was talking about, it was absoutely fine. It looked sort of like a dimple, just in case anything similar happens with your DS. Hope everything goes well.

2BoysTooLoud · 12/05/2011 07:20

I imagine you might be at the hospital already as they often get people in for 7am. [Had thought about my ds op last night and remembered camera went through tummy button. So 3x wound areas -tummy button /above groin and on testicle. Mostly internal stitches and all healed quickly].
Hopefully when you read this you will be back home and all will be well!

2BoysTooLoud · 13/05/2011 06:42

I hope all went well par05.

You must be so relieved par05. Just keep up with the pain relief. Think I used it for at least 3 days. Bruising will go through a multitude of colours - shame he can't really show the bruises off!!
It sounds like it went really well.
Very pleased for you. xx

par05 · 13/05/2011 15:35

thanks quick question when did your ds poo and was it ok did you give him lactlose my ds hasn't done a poo yet and only been able to pee standing up am not sure if he will sit on the toilet!! x

OP posts:
2BoysTooLoud · 13/05/2011 21:13

Hi par05, I don't remember my ds having any problems re poo but of course he was only 1 and in nappies - not using toilet. Don't think he was uncomfortable/ in pain with pooing. If your ds is constipated/ scared to poo cos of pain lactulose should soften things up a bit. [Takes day or so to work I think].
I hope your son is feeling ok. x

par05 · 14/05/2011 11:33

2BoysTooLoud · 14/05/2011 16:16

Hope things are 'moving' now..
Think probably harder at 3 than 1 because your ds can understand/ worry more.
Glad he is getting back to his normal cheeky self!
Hope you're relaxing too after all the stress.

par05 · 14/05/2011 23:22
