Right, Essay due in in about 38 hours - before which I have to spend about an hour polishing a presentation due on the same day, and 2 hours actually attending the presentation.

Plus another 8 or so hours will disappear on a family day out tomorrow. And I need to sleep, and eat, and cook and make sure the children have clean clothes for Tuesday. I reckon that will give me about 10 hours of essay writing time - 5 tonight and 5 tomorrow.

So I need to do 1000 words AT LEAST tonight. Thank God it is only a 2000 word essay.

And I need a big kick up the bum....

I suppose it depends what it's about. If it's 1,000 words about mumsnetting it will be easy but if its about the existentialism of inuit tribes then that may take longer.

GET GOING GIRL!!!

It is about the effects of working memory on educational attainment.

I don't completely understand the model of working memory, but hopefully the tutor won't either... but the rest should be Ok - talking about the actual effects!

Oh I am in the same boat! Essay due in on Tuesday and I'm sitting here drinking wine and buying baby clothes on ebay...

Oakmaiden · 01/05/2011 21:10

fruitshoot - I am not overwhelmed by this tutor, can you tell? Also I got to choose what I wanted to write the essay on (as long as it was something to do with SEN) so it is not like it is her specialist subject. I hope!

Rita - get going!!!

So - approx one hour in, and 386 words so far. And have explained the bit I find a bit complicated....

You're lucky! We have an extraordinarily capable new lecturer in charge of our dissertation, I have tweaked it 3 times already!

Oakmaiden · 01/05/2011 22:37

slowing down. 2 1/2 hours so far, and 700 words. Have to do at least 300 more tonight - preferably 500 more.

Of course, it doesn't help that the bloody journal database that I need to use is offline at the moment. Grrr.

3 1/2 hours and 950 words.

Time for a Creme Egg break before I plough on with the next bit.

Think I might do the introduction and then call it a night.

I had to write about working memory and the Childrens non word repitition test, a few months ago and I quite liked it....it seemed like absolutely everything, books/journals etc. was written by Susan Gathercole.

Hope it goes well

I have an exam, a proper 3 hour serious exam, next Fri...but i have been watching the Royal wedding and mumsnetting instead of studying, in fact i needed your OP to remind me to wash school uniforms Blush

Yes, Gathercole and Alloway. I am a bit worried that she is going to look at my reference list and say I haven't read widely enough. One or other of them seems to get into pretty much EVERYTHING.

I have exams coming up too. All our assignments this year are pretty much packed into the next 4 weeks. I have this essay and 2 presentations this week. then 2 exams in 3 weeks time. And another 2 essays the week after that. It is nuts.

Anyway - 1177 words in 4 1/2 hours. Not exactly speedy, but getting there. Except I am going to bed now. Hopefully squeeze another 250 words in tomorrow morning, leaving 600 for tomorrow evening. Plus redoing my presentation notes and finishing the handout. Mustn't forget them!

Done ity, done it, DONE IT.

Yippity skip.

6 hours altogether which is a bloody record and a half! Don't think I have spent less than 20 hours on an essay before!

Printing out my presentation handouts now, and making crib notes.
