Can anyone recommend/does anyone use a carseat for a 4.9 year old that can be fitted into the car with a lap belt. Most of the ones I have sourced seem to be American.

I think this discussion has been had many times and the consensus is that a booster just can't be used with a lap belt. I don't know about the type that you sit on rather than it being a high backed one though.

Probably the American ones will be suitable because they have top tether straps? The only thing is I don't know whether they are legal here, because they need to comply to European standards.

Thanks BertieBotts I certainly wouldn't use a booster with a lap belt. I know some of the American ones can be used without the top tether straps up to a certain weight (quite heavy) but you may be right they may not be legal here. Ds3 is quite light and quite little so I don't even like him on a booster seat without a back. It means if we are all in the car one of my teenagers wears a lap belt and I am not happy about that either.
