cot mattresses

I had a lovely mattress for dd1, one of the more expensive ones. It was stored in the loft for dd2, but Ive just got it out and despite being wrapped in plastic it has a few areas where its gone mouldy. Ive scrubbed it with biological washing powder in the bath (the water was running out quite dirty) and it looks like new now. Ive put it in the sunshine to dry/ sterilise a bit....would you use this mattress or buy a new 1?

I find it easy to convince myself when shopping for this kind of equipment that I MUST provide for my children, the more expensive products...with springs and coolmax technology etc, rather than the cheaper foam ones. We are quite very skint.....did you spend a lot on mattresses? Did you buy a cheaper one and your children survived without being physically deformed by it?!
