Trying to work, feeling a bit sorry for myself - anyone else?

It's a beautiful day here and the rest of the family have gone out to give me peace and quiet to work. I am grateful, of course, but also a bit sad at missing out. I've been off looking after the DCs for the last couple of weeks and no meaningful work has been done. I spent this morning finishing off a freelance project, and now need to get on with my supposedly full-time but in practice somewhat neglected PhD. I don't think I've ever felt so unmotivated and my APG is only 6 weeks away. Sigh.

My DH has taken DTS to Wales to visit Gran, I stayed here to revise for MSc exam in 2 weeks. Hate revising, not sure I'm going to be able to get a job which is the point of all this, so v unmotivated too. I've been reading outside so I don't feel I'm too cooped up. Can you do that?

Only way to get it done is to start. Can you break it down in to really small segments and do a mini reward at and of each one?

Would it help to visualize yourself in that dream job or introducing yourself as Dr Dotty?

Thank you - I've made some progress. Enough to feel it hasn't been an afternoon wasted, at least, and I've got my head back round my project after the hols, which is what I really needed. Not sure what time they'll all be back from the day out but if I have time at the end of the afternoon a book in the garden sounds perfect - thanks for that suggestion!

I am trying to do my last 2 assignments for my foundation degree. Both 3,500 words and both due in on Wednesday. I have had weeks to do them but here I am 900 words in on 1 and still feeling totally unmotivated. I have made more progress today than in the last 6 weeks, so here's hoping I get then finished by the weekend.
I keep stopping and doing other things which is helping a bit.

Hmm, purple - that sounds hard. How's it going now? Maybe you should plan something really nice for Monday pm as an incentive to get it done quickly, and not let the work take up all the lovely weekend. Sigh. My current plan - having made some but not quite enough progress today is to get up early every morning over the rest of the weekend and work from 6 - 9am while DH does morning stuff/ breakfast and gets the DDs ready. I have yet to share this plan with him.
