Hi everyone,

My name is Tom Burgoyne and I am a 3rd year Criminology undergraduate studying at the University of Southampton. I am posting here to you to ask if you would be willing to participate in some research I am carrying out for my dissertation. The area I am researching is assessing parent attitudes and perceptions (in the UK) towards video games, and in particular towards games which contain violent content.

As you're more than likely aware, children and adolescents playing video games is very much a common past time in recent years. It is also a topic that has, and still recieves, a lot of media attention. Being that you get to see your children first hand playing video games, you're insight is invaluable.

Below I have posted a link to an online questionnaire I have created. It should take approximately 7 minutes to complete and consists of 21 questions. The questionnaire is hosted on a University of Southampton server and all data is kept securely. All responses are anonymous and you can opt out of this research at any point.

Web address: www.isurvey.soton.ac.uk/2207

You will be directed to a welcome page that runs through all the instructions and asks you to consent to taking part.

Thank you very much for your time and I am extremely thankful for any responses that you give!

Best wishes,

Tom Burgoyne
