Hiya...I've had great advice of this forum (that put my mind at ease) and am hoping I'm just being silly and tired!

My 3 1/2 week old has been asleep all afternoon, woke up a couple of times for quick feeds then going back to sleep. He has been cluster feeding in the afternoons/evenings lately which is why I find it strange. He was awake quite a lot this morning so maybe that's why?

Do babies sometimes feed a bit less at this age?

If you can't guess its my first baby. Dp thinks baby is fine I guess I just need reassurance from some more experienced parents (I am a worrier by nature)

Also should mention its a deep sleep but he is responsive to being touched.

Thanks :)

I've got a 5 1/2 week old and for the first 4 weeks all she did was sleep. She's awake a lot more now but yesterday I'd say she was asleep for 3 hours in total (I think she's reached her 6 week growth spurt as she's also taking a lot more milk). It's perfectly normal - babies need a lot of sleep!

He's not got a temp has he?

How does he sleep at night? Ie will be be up all night? By all afternoon what do you actually mean?

Its good that he's taken some quick feeds and is responsive. Is he jaundice at all?

Cluster feeding doesn't last forever, maybe he is growing out of it. Plenty of wet and dirty nappies is a good sign that he is getting enough milk.

They change their 'habits' all the time, just when you are getting the hang of them.

Its hard with your first but FORCE yourself to rest if they are!

Maybe he's gearing up for a growth spurt?

haudyerwheesht · 06/04/2011 21:35

Oh yes I second the SLEEP NOW suggestion!!

Heya, feel a bit silly now he's wide awake and having a good feed. He doesn't have a temp. He usually sleeps at night inbetween feeds. I think after having a few days of the closest thing I've had to 'routine' in weeks I got worried when it changed from that!

Thank you all for you replies!

I think even people very keen on routine say it doesn't usually come together til about 6 weeks or even 3 months so don't worry too much if its all over the place still.
