I don't think 6mo DS eats enough

I have a 6mo DS and he seems to eat less than his peers. He has 4 bottles a day of about 7oz each; milk is no problem. Solids however...

How much is enough? I use a lot of the Ella's Organic pouches and sometimes he'll eat a few spoons, sometimes about a third of a pouch. During growth spurts he will eat more, but is this enough? Is it ok for him to leave the table having only eaten a few spoons?

More importantly, should I be starting to cut down on his milk to try and get him to take more solids? This is easier said than done because he will sob if he doesn't get about 5oz before his solids. Am I even going in the right direction here?

Food is just for experimentation at this age - there are more calories in milk. So what you describe sounds absolutely fine. Just let him play with food - give him finger food, which is more fun.

There is a saying about food for little babies... something like 'it's all play before 12 months' but more catchy :)
Point is, milk is their main food before they're one - they do need other stuff but they'll take as much as they need. Some days more, other days less. Your DS sounds exactly like mine at that age - he hardly ate a thing most of the time. Today (at 17 months) he ate three decent meals including a whole massive jacket potato for his tea! Plus snacks...
He will get there - don't worry, don't push it, just offer him a range of food and let him taste and explore. HTH :)

That's it StayFrosty - I knew it was more catchy ;)

stayfrosty yes I am starting to venture more into the finger food world; cumcumber and pepper sticks etc he loves. But he will not pick them up off the tray. He needs me to hand them to him, whereupon he will knaw away like an ant on lucozade; however when he drops them he loses interest... normal at this age?

I got a bit carried away and worried tonight after he would not eat the four bean bake thing (i know, i know). He had about five spoons and then looked at me as if to say 'bite me'. I'm just so worried he'll grow into a fussy eater like DH.
