sippy cups?

Hi, my DS will be one in 2 weeks but stll refuses to drink from a cup! I but it out every time he eats, demonstrated how to use it Blush but he just won't, he'd rather go without.
I'm worried as I have read continuing with a bottle is bad for baby teeth but I also want to be certain he's getting enough to drink. We're cutting back on formula but he's demanding BF more as a result.
Any ideas gratefully recieved

Anyone?
Meal times are starting to become a battle - he also not throws his finger food on the floor thinking it's funny. We've said no, ignored it, taken the rest away, NOTHING WORKS!

First of all, don't sweat the bottle. My son is 21 months and still drinks out of one for milk. Water is sippy cups.

And at a year old all you can really do is grit your teeth and clean up the mess. He's too young to understand anything else.

Have you tried an open cup, or a little glass? May be messy for a while - you could just let him experiment when it's nearly bath/ bed time!

OP - I started a similar thread a few weeks ago; I feel your pain!

My DS is 13 months old and will not drink more than a few sips from a sippy cup :-(

I think the best thing to do is to keep doing what you're doing - keep leaving the cup out and offering it, and hopeful your DC will take it one day.... that is what I'm telling myself anyway!

:)

Okay first of all, no way is your son 13 months already, TLC! Grin

Now that I am not on my phone I can expand my answer...

My son does drink milk out of a sippy cup but, get this, only when not at home. Hmm So at daycare or if we're out and about he'll use a sippy cup. If I try to give it to him that way at home? No dice. Will.Not.Drink.It! Grin

But he does drink water out of a sippy cup, as I said. I started with the kind that have straws and then moved on to others as he got that one.

Keep persevering, he'll get there, I promise!

Have you tried doidy cups? They are angled so that it's much easier for little ones to drink from them without the top of the cup getting in the way, IYSWIM.

Thank you for all the advice. Will perservere. Tee what are the type with staws?

They are made by Vital Baby and have a straw that you can detach. For some reason my son just really 'got' sucking through a straw long before he got tipping a cup up for a drink!

I also have a doidy but he's not used that successfully yet. He's rather stubborn (takes after his mum and dad) and really really wants his milk in a bottle! It's one of the development things I'm just not sweating!!

Tee - I will have a look for a cup with a straw.... the countertop of my kitchen already looks like a cup and bottle shop - I have bought about 4 different types to try to get him used to them Confused

And yes, DS is 13 months! Big and bold :)

(OP - sorry for hijack) Blush
