I suspect that this subject has been covered before on Mumsnet, only I couldn't find it...
what I wanted to know was,how should I describe and name (nothing too gynaecological, mind) the female private parts to my 4 year old son - obviously he knows about his own willy, but I'm afraid I got stuck when quizzed about girls' bits-any good ideas...?

This may sound a bit cheesy but with our dd (recently 5) it has always been her "wee wee house" and "poo poo house". This was originally more to do with getting her to distinguish between the two for order of wiping purposes, and is probably now somewhat redundant!! Our best mates have boys and she asked me the same question "what do you call girls bits?". On the spur of that moment (ie when the boys were asking what girls bits are called) we couldn't think of anything better for the age group, and they accepted those terms. We have just started to talk about "the mummy place in between these places" as where babies are born (though having had C Section her birth story slightly different..) I would be interested in other mums ideas for stepping up the terminology, and when this is appropriate. I have tried to only answer questions when asked rather than give the information out voluntarily .. I find there are enough Q and As about life and the universe with dd without instigating them.

Tusky, it'a Nunny (said with a soft 'U').

Tusky, if you type Bums and bits into the search box it will bring up the discussion. Minnie was the word I suggested and several people took it up

Well, I skirted round this issue for ages and then one day my daughter came home from nursery and referred to her Winkie. It's sort of stuck and it's better than her Flower or something - a bit anyway, certainly better than Front Bottom.

I'm afraid ours is 'fanny' as we call a willie a willie! Only problem came recently when she fell off a chair and asked us to 'kiss my fanny better' !!!

My daughter also calls hers "minnie" and we had a great laugh because I now call mine "maxi" - no way could it be called a "mini".
