Is that normal behaviour for a 7yo boy?

When ds is upset, he will bite himself (hand or knee) so much so that he will have bad bite marks on his skin.
He sometimes also hit himself on the head....
Normal or should I keep an eye on it?

You should keep an eye on it.

My ds2 self harms when he is stressed.

Have you talked to him about it when he is calm?
It might be worth talking with him about things he could do that make him feel the same relief but without hurting himself. Like punching a cushion or ds2 likes to get under things iyswim -he likes the sensation of weight and finds it calming. He gets under sofa cushions.

No I haven't talked to him as such. I have pointed out to him that it isn't a good idea. And that, just as he should not hit/hurt someone, he shouldn't hurt himself either.

I will tak to him and see what he says about it.

When do you think it is actually becoming an issue?

I think my concern would be that it becomes a coping mechanism for him, a habit that he uses when ever stressed.

I don't think it is a sign of anything more sinister. Just something you need to watch so that it doesn't escalate.

If you don't get responses from those more knowledgeable than me, perhaps re post with self harm in the title.

I hope you get some more replies Smile
