My mum is in Oz for four months at the moment (she has been there for two months already). She looks after DCs at least once a week. It's fine. No need for you to do anything other than tell them that Granny is going on holiday a few days before she goes.

My LO, who is four, does say she is missing her Granny from time to time - but not that often; DD1 doesn't seem bothered but she is at school and quite busy now.

They absolutely adore her, but time doesn't mean that much to them. It's harder for her, tbh. They miss her a lot more after we have skyped or received a postcard than when we haven't had any contact.
