Rant re assignment

Just found out I have failed one of my MSc assignments - it was bound to happen and can re sit so all not lost (yet!)

Anyway - want to have a huge rant over the feedback. It amounted to ten lines, was told I had used refs that were too old (1884) but I didn't have a ref from 1884 (or even 1984). I did have one from the 1960s but it is one of the most important works in the subject (Piaget and child development.

They say I did not mention a certain area, but in the very next sentence say I was slightly confused in my discussion of the area that I apparently did not mention!

I can't rant to them when I have my feedback meeting as it seems like sour grapes so thought I would do it here. It is not so much to expect to get useful feedback is it???

Stupid tutors - I should clearly have got top marks! ha ha

Make an appointment to see the fool marking lecturer so they can go through it with you.

Seeing them on Thursday. Wanted to get it out of my system in case I went in and made grand statements about them being idiots etc. Don't imagine it will help my cause!

I think you need to have a rant at your feedback meeting. Your feedback really isn't good enough at all and you need to stand up for yourself. I would definitely asked for it to be marked by another tutor (who doesn't know what the first tutor has said about it) This is your degree and there is nothing wrong with doing that, you may still fail but you will probably have much better, and more accurate, feedback to move on with.

Went over essay last night again and it made me even more angry.

They made a point where I say people disagree with Piaget but not at what age - I link the point to one of piaget's stages of development, so in effect do stage an age range.

They said it was under researched. I had 50 plus references, the average from the rest of the group was 30 plus.

It needed to be more balanced (I had to discuss 4 ages in the life cycle). In double checked the word count and they are all almost equal give or take 10/20 words.

Overall, they say it could have been more critical but the feedback really makes me think it hasn't been read properly, albeit the point may well still stant I will talk through with them today.

It is a bummer I failed but this just makes it worse!

It's really, really annoying when this happens. All you can really do is make an appointment to see the person who marked it. Don't go in with all guns blazing though.

Belle that's not all you can do. You can and are perfectly entitled to ask for a second marker. In this case I would.

Everybod you deserve to get proper feedback. Even if you essay did stink it should still be properly read and given constructive criticism. Good luck with your meeting
