I either run upstairs with dd and empty it and she gets a song on Balamory website as a reward or if feeling lazy and its fine I nip down ans empty in compost bin. Either way just rinse out afterwards as wee is sterile. Poos I empty down toilet and I wash potty with warm soupy water. dd doesnt tend to play with her potty anyway.

Have to say Im trying to encourage dd to use the loo as its alot less hassle

this is when Im at home mind. Have no idea what dp does but presume its similar but have never asked.

I rinse, and use that dettol aerosol spray stuff.

I thought that wee was only sterile until it came into contact with other bacteria...

I scoop the turds out with a wipe and drop them, not the wipe in the toilet, it's a lot less messy than trying to tip them in the pan,and then spray with diluted disinfectant and rinse under the hot tap

can't believe I am posting this as I am tuckinng in to my (beef curry) dinner

Wees I just rinse out down the toilet or even the kitchen sink as, like tarantula says, it's totally sterile. Poos I tip the potty out down the toilet, then hold it under the flushing water in the toilet for an immediate rinse, then I wipe out with toilet paper, flush all that away then give a quick swill with soapy water. Then I dry with some kitchen roll and have a good handwash! I did use a disinfectant after a poo but it seemed to make dd's bottom quite sore on the cheeks where they touched the potty edge. It's only really the runny poos that are a pain to clean out. Dd's very regular, only does 1 or at most 2 poos a day so I've never found it a terrible hassle.

flamebat, but don't some ancient healing methods use wee to clean wounds? And some people drink it. GAG.

MrsDoolittle · 19/10/2005 11:25

Wee is sterile when it comes out. However, once it comes into contact with metabolites, which it will if any dregs are left in the potty, it will become infected with bacteria and start to smell.

So, as long as it goes in a clean potty and is rinsed away fairly quickly, it's ok, right? [hopeful emoticon]

MrsDoolittle · 19/10/2005 11:34

I'd say so
