Cost of childcare

Can anyone give me an idea of how much it costs to put an 18 month old into a creche or with a childminder for 5 days a week?

Have a 3 week old - but just thinking ahead for thr future... and trying to get DH to see the practical side of trying to save money!

It depends very much on where you live, really, and whether the nursery provide food and nappies.

DS2 is 18 months. His nursery is just over £200 a week FT (inclusive of everything). We saw one that was £130 a week FT and it was utterly dire. We live up north. When we lived down south (not London), his nursery was slightly more expensive than what we pay now.

DD is 12 months. Her nursery is £33 a day, we live in the north west.

we pay 58 a day full time. about 1200 a month

Its nice nuresry and in SE england but certainly not flash.

Its not cheap.

5 days a week full time in Kent is around £1k a month.

I'm a Childminder in Suffolk and I charge £3 per hour for over 25 hours a week.

The nursery my ds goes to is £230 a week full time - includes food but excludes nappies and wipes.

DD's nursery is £38 per day for under 2s, so about £800 for the month, inclusive of all food but not nappies.

Here in the south east/central my dd's nursery would be £1100 a ninth for full time! Bear in mind if you can use childcare vouchers you'll save and depends where you work you might get a discount (dd's nursery is on a hospital site so employees of the trust get reduced rates- sadly we dont!

I charge 60 pounds a day in my area but I know some childminders charge 70 quids a day ! Everything is included.

Bloody hell I live in the WRONG part of the country. Down my part of London my nursery is £320 per week for under 2 and £280 per week for over 2. This includes food but not nappies/milk.

They do have extended hours (7.30am-6.30pm) which I need in order to work the hours needed to pay the feckin nursery to look after my children.

In the North East here; we pay our wonderful childminder £25 a day. Most nurseries around here charge £30 a day.

I am in Yorkshire and childminders vary from £23-£30 per day including food. Nurseries are a little more expensive being somewhere between £28-£38 per day some include nappies, wipes and food. There is even one that you can take your laundry to and order a home cooked meal to be prepared for you to take home for tea! Not sure how much that one costs to be honest

Nusery is £43 a day for my dc's nursery at that age, it goes down to £41 a day once they hit 3yrs. Nappies not included, but they get breakfast, lunch and tea.

Jaydles - I want that nursery!!!! Don't actually have any nursery aged children, but the home cooked meal sounds great!!!

My mum is a childminder, she charges £140 a week for 9-5 mon-fri, slightly more for weekend days. This includes breakfast and lunch with snacks and squash/water. tea extra if required. She is in the south west

In S Wales it will be £36 a day for me, though I think they will have put their prices up a bit by the time I put my son in the creche.

South West. £142.50 a week FT includes food but excludes nappies and wipes. Nice place, new build with huge garden and lots of new toys. But wages down here are lower so I guess it pans out?

I work compressed working hours to keep costs down. DD is in nursery 3 days a week and it costs £850 per month. Includes food and nappies. It's a great nursery - just got an outstanding ofsted - but it's it the South East, commuter belt, so price of living here is high. I try and fit 5 days work into 4 days, with my hubby looking after DD one day and I look after her one day too. It cuts our costs down for the nursery working compressed hours significantly.

With the costs so high, we're waiting to try for number 2. If we are lucky enough to have number 2, we hope that DD will be about 3 years old so we can get our 15 hours free entitlement. Have no idea how we would afford 2 children at nursery otherwise!!

I'm Shropshire, CM, charging £3.00 per hour.

I'm in the midlands and DS' childminder charges £4 per hour, food included in that. He doesn't have milk with her as he's too old but I guess I would have to supply that. If she changes his nappy she just uses one of hers and doesn't mention it, she has never me asked to provide.

I don't think age comes into it with childminders.

I'm in Leeds, CMs vary here from about £3.50 to £5 an hour depending on what part of town.

In Wiltshire, CM costs £3 per hour.
DS1 and DS2 go 2 days a week for 10 hours, so that's £120 per week.

I'm in Hampshire.... wow. thought it was expensive - but WOW. I can see why some people say going to work is hardly worth it.

In the north west and dd's nursery costs £35 a day including all meals, snacks and drinks but you have to provide your own nappies.
