Ideas for 7 year old DD party

My DD will be turning 7 soon and I was wondering what to do for a party. Previously she has always had a joint 'invite the whole class' type party with another girl but she and I don't really fancy doing that this time, especially as she doesn't get many party invites back!

She doesn't want

An entertainer
Anything 'arty' (loves art but not for a party)
Anything 'princess' or similar themed

I don't want

A swimming party as that involves me and other parents getting in!
Mess and/or more than three other children in the house!!

She is quite happy to have another joint party (but smaller) but the mum of the other girl likes to leave booking until the last minute whereas I like to be organised, needless to say the last two years I have waited so long for her input that I have ended up taking over and organising it all anyway!

The only thing that she and I can agree on (which wouldn't be a joint one) is a horse riding party at the riding school she attends however I am a bit worried that at this age some of the children may agree to go but then get too scared to get on the horse!

Would love to hear any suggestions

I'm having a similar issue at mo'. My DS is going to be 6, and we usually have a joint one with another lil girl who was born on same day. But this yr the lil girl has decided she wants a 'cheer leading' party at the local play centres and is inviting all the girls from his class. We cant invite only boys as my DS is friends with girls too and it turns in to a political minefield of who to leave out. There is no way I can afford 30 at a play centre so I was thinking of asking him whether he wants 2 (or maybe 3, can i cope alone with 4 kids?!) to go to cinema and mcDs with, or bowling, or ten at play centre (making 12 with him n sis).

Btw my DS would no get on a horse, i paid for a half hr lesson, he got on, as soon as it walked forward he panicked and will not go near horses now.

Ring the stables and find out what they suggest - my dd would love to go horseriding. Or take a few kids to a farm for the day.

Did a cooking party for my dd (for about 10 people). First they did their own aprons with fabric pens. Then made biscuits. Made pizza pittas for lunch and iced biscuits afterwards. No party bags required. Might be a bit "crafty" for your dd though?

For his 7th birthday we took DS and three friends to a local aquarium and then back to our house for party tea. Was very enjoyable and not stressful (I find big parties much too wearing ).
