I received an interview date today for Hull university for the nursing degree! I'm so excited because I want this SO much but I also happen to know that 800 people have applied for just 200 places.

Does anyone have any tips for shining at the interview? My experience is very limited (currently working voluntary in a hospice but that's it) so I really need to shine in other areas.

Any advice greatly apreciated!

Hi. They want to know about your experience so come armed with examples and a mental list of what you do.

Talk about communicating with staff, patients, families, and other health care professionals.

Importance of confidentiality.

Infection control.

Legal role of the nurse (maybe review the NMC Code of Conduct?)

Current issues in healthcare - off the top of my head, budget cuts (of course), privatisation of the NHS, move to day cases. The BBC news has a health care news which is a good source. And buy a copy of a nursing journal from Smiths that might help.

They will ask about the role of the nurse - personal cares, documentation, medicine administration, pt advocate, general dogs body Wink

Back up answers with examples from your experience.

They expect you to be flexible and dedicated and to treat the course like a job so make sure they know you are iykwim?

You will do fine :)
