Dumb question about washing...

I got my trial pack from Twinkle, Twinkle nappies today. Really impressed with what I got for 35 quid! Anyway, just been thinking about using them (once baby is out of the "newborn-newborn" stage) and how I will go about it. Its only 4 nappies and 1 wrap- I'm guessing half a day with a 2/3 month old?) so it hardly seems enough to run the washing machine.

Can you wash nappies with other baby stuff? or is that gross? I guess the clothes are going to have all sorts on them anyway and the point of the washing machine is to get stuff clean but... not sure?

Many thanks :)

its entirely personal, some people do nappy only washes and others chuck them in with clothes, or maybe with a towel/ sheet wash. Presumably this is only while you trial them and then if you decide to continue with cloth you will buy more? In which case you will probably then have a full load to put on every couple of days anyway.

I do. I rinse nappies / wraps / liners / wipes on a cold wash first then chuck in whatever is to hand to make up a full load.

I use soapnuts but I think if you use detergent then you have to use a lot less than you would normally or it builds up in the nappies.

I do wash the with clothes occasionally but using fabric conditioner with nappies is a bad idea as it reduces absorbancy so ususally chuck some towels in if I have any that need a wash.

It's fine to wash them with other stuff, as long as you do a 60 degree wash to sterilise. So towels are a good idea, or bed sheets etc. No fabric softener though.

Yes, we rinse nappies alone and then wash them together with towels, bedsheets (and any colour-fast baby clothes that DD has pooed, wee-ed or puked on).

I used to put Nappies in, cold rinse, put in clothes to make it up to a full load, then put on 60 degree normal wash with bold 2in1- the fabric conditioner included doesn't affect absorbency.
