I did just want to add, before people understand me wrong, my friend had already explained to her kids at great length (over weeks!) why she thought that flip flops were bad for their feet. She wasn´t giving the only reason as being "because I say so" - I would think that was not right. But she had had the serious explanations as to why she felt it important and for her it was so important that she didn´t want to just allow the children to decide for themselves.
