Just wondered if anyone had any ideas about this scenario - I'm a full-time funded PhD student, DP is in full-time work, if we have a baby I believe would get 4 months 'maternity leave' with stipend continuing to be paid. Was wondering how this would fit in (if at all) with the new parental leave proposals where part of the maternity leave can be transferred to the father - the confusing point is that the leave only becomes transferable after the first 6 months is up, however I wouldn't even get 6 months to begin with! (unless I asked to take further unpaid leave).
Is it just not applicable to us as I'm not technically employed? It seems a real shame as while I expect 4 months will be more than enough for me, DP would love the opportunity to take some time off to care for a child, he'd be great at it and this would be nicer (not to mention cheaper!) than putting the baby in childcare at 4 months.
