Hello All

I am 22 weeks pregnant with my second child, and my 4 1/2 year old son is asking where babies come from. Can anyone recommend a good book that is suitable for his age that I can use to talk to him regarding this. I am unsure how to tackle this, and any advise would be welcome.

Thanks

Restoree

I would not offer any more than he asks for. I seem to recall that "Mummy and Daddy had a special cuddle and Mummy's egg grew into a baby in her tummy" was enough information for my DSs at that age.

thank you for your replies-my son hasn't asked any more questions apart from 'Will the baby like chocolate biscuits' so will tackle them when they arise :)

My son asked the same question at around the same age. I just answered as honestly as possible only giving him the information I thought he'd be able to comprehend at the time which was "Mummy and Daddy had a special cuddle to make you, mummy had a seed in her tummy and daddy watered(for want of a better word!)the seed in mummies tummy and it grew into a baby...you!"

When ds got a little older and started RE at school he came home one night saying "I know how babies are made!" So went on to explain what i'd told him when he was younger and the reply came "NO...god made me!!!"Grin

ok so my ds was 4 and a half when i was pregnant with dd. We got recomended a lovely book to explain to the children where babys come from. Its called ''where willy went'' The name makes me giggle a bit but it fab! also we found a good one was 'there is a house in mummys tummy'... both really nice to read with your LO.

There is a great book called "Questions Children Ask" by Dr Miriam Stoppard. It covers loads fo topics and has the answers in age bands (2-4, 4-6, 6-8 and 8-11). I have used it loads of times and find it fits the bill for my very precocious 4 year old.

It even has an answer for "how does the baby get out?" Answer (my words): girls have 3 holes - one for pee, one for poo and one for letting the baby out. Boys have a willie, so don't need the 3rd hole. It works! :)

my dd 4 asked how baby gets out, I gave the same explination as kiwijo.

when she progressed to how does baby get there I was as honest as possible and told her mummy has an egg that travels down to her womb and daddy has sperm, the sperm gets into mummys tummy from her vagina and the sperm helps the egg grow alitle bit like the way watter and sun helps a seed grow.
