playing alone aged 3.10 - is there such a thing as leaving her too long?

dd1 has just really got into imaginative play at 3.10. I can hear her up in the bathroom organising a school trip for her toys. She can go for ages now without popping down to see me, and tbh this is quite helpful as dd2 is a little sod sleep fighter and i can focus on her for a bit.

i do feel weirdly guilty though, and worry that i'm neglecting dd1. should i go and impose myself on her?

No it's a fantastic skill for dd to have to be able to play imaginatively and independently.
Maybe you could get a couple of simple board games and make a point of playing them with her regularly too (games by Orchard Toys are great)

My dd is around the same age and is also into imaginative play.If I haven't seen her for a while I will pop my head around the door of what ever room to be playing in, usually to be told "I don't need you Mummy you can go back down stairs"

Absolutely NOT.

It is to be encouraged and not intruded upon! You are both enjoying it - why feel guilty?

dd2 is 3.11 and exactly the same. I have the odd pang of guilt but it's very much on her terms. The days when I'm feeling a bit hungover poorly I can guarantee she wants full on attention.

gecko is 3y 11m and can do this too for hours, I love to hear her chatting away to her toys, animals etc

Oh no, leave her to play! Its great for her and for you and for DD2 by the sounds of it! Its fascinating to hear the things they play Smile
