Hi!

I am moving to Africa in two weeks time with my newborn son (currently 5 weeks old) because of my husbands job. We have a shipment allowance, and I need to make a guess at how many nappies we will use and put them in to send them out there, as nappies are not available for purchase cheaply where we will be living.

I had been intending to use cloth, but have now decided that I will use disposables.

I have no idea how to estimate how many nappies my child will use in one year. Can anyone help me or provide advice?? He was 7lb 8 oz at birth, and I am currently using pampas disposable size 2.

THANK YOU!!

Hmmmm.

I would say in the first year about 2000 nappies. That is just under 6 a day, so maybe take more.

DD was prem, so was in tiny baby ones for a few weeks, size 1 from about 10 weeks - 4 months, size 2 from about 4 months - 6 months, 3 - 6-10 months, 4 - 10 - 14, 4+ 14 to now (18 months). Your baby is clearly bigger, so maybe 500 each sizes 2,3,4,4+, then a couple of hundred of 5s? Remember they stop growing so rapidly when they get more toddlerish, so about 1 year.

we used disposables with DD1 and I was amazed at how quickly she got to size 4. I would estimate 6-8 a day and you will have plenty

ds2 was in size 4+ at a year old if that's any help, although can't remember when he changed to each size. As the others posters have said, I'd allow between 6-8 a day. Is there no one who could send them over as needed, guess that would be expensive though?

Boy is just in size 4 now at 19 weeks. I would reckon on about 8 a day to be sure, unless there is a serious shortage of space then go over than under on quantity.

Could you get someone like Amazon to deliver to your part of Africa?

From birth to potty we usually say between 4500 and 5000 nappies.

Why don't want you want to use cloth - especially as you'll have the benefit of the heat to dry nappies quickly. Plus teh benefit of having cooler, breathable nappies next to his skin in a hot climate, rather than sweaty plastic disposables.

I'd be happy to give advice on what nappies I would reccommend for a hot climate, if you wanted to reconsider and use cloth.
