Toddler hates his cot all of a sudden

Won't sleep, won't nap, wakes in night howling. Used to be a great sleeper, but for the last few days it has been unbearable. Please help.

DS is 22 months, his DT sleeps through the whole tantrum. Calpol makes no difference, I'm sure he is not poorly.

He is like the duracel bunny, he just keeps going - 4 hours sleep in last 24, he is fine and I am on my knees...

Perhaps he's ready for a bed. Mine were in beds before then.

Or he could be teething and the Calpol isn't working for him. Have you tried Neurofen?

UntamedShrew · 23/01/2011 19:45

Nurofen isn't either - but he has had nappy rash which made me think teeth too.

Interesting about beds, I've been too scared to as hate the thought of them getting out all night! Did yours? They have cot beds, so they are nice and big. If I drop sides he will climb out I think, he is so cross about being in there.

Cot beds against a wall, with a rail. They soon get used to it. Takes two nights for them to stop jumping up. Just keep putting him back without saying anything.

DS went through this, switched to a bed, he never got out but did wake in the night for a week or two. Did gradual withdrawal again and soon settled and no more tantrums (well about bedtime anyway!)

Yes, definitely try a bed, he's clearly not happy in his cot any more. Its not a logical thing - children grow out of and into things at different rates, and for whatever reason, he's decided he doesn't like his cot.

You may have a few more unsettled nights, but I bet within a week you'll see a difference
