Quick question for ecover users!

I posted yesterday about my DS developing a rash when we started using fuzzis. He has been in disps today while the rash clears but I have bought some ecover to see if the washing process is to blame.

Can you tell me your exact washing routine for your nappies? How much ecover liquid do you use? What temp? Do you pre-rinse in sink or in machine? Do you do a rinse cycle after main wash?

Many many thanks x

Oh, I have been using 15oz cotton bottoms inserts. They are fab for absorbancy but do you think they make things a little too hot?

paprika - I know Ecover is "natural" but I had to stop using it as my dh came out in an itchy rash.

When washing nappies it is recommended to use about half the amount of detergent you would usually use and it can help to do a 2nd rinse cycle to ensure that all traces of detergent have gone.

ecover irritated my two (not in nappies but knickers and underpants). I switched to a brand name non-bio and they've been fine since then.

i find ecover=good for enviroment but bad for my kids skin.

i tend to use tesco/persil non bio or surcare. use half the recommended dose of powder for all laundry and do an extra rinse.

I only ever use a table spoon of liquid detergent for 9-10 nappies (either ecover or ariel). I do a cold prewash, 60C wash and rinse and then if I can smell detergent, I do an extra rinse just in case. We live in a hard water area so get lots of buildup in the machine.

Could your son be reacting to fleece? I think if you are using cotton inserts they'd be cool, not so sure about micro terry (I usually use a mix of micro terry and hemp)

i use ecover for all our washing (powder not liquid) but it is AWFUL for getting stains out!

so, i started using Fairy non-bio. It has been fine, even on DP who has very sensitive skin.

as others have said, use about half the amount on nappies. and do an extra rinse now and then.

Thanks SO much everyone . It doesn't sound like ecover will be any better!! My fuzzis are new and before I put them on DS, I only washed them once at 65 degrees, no rinse afterwards. Reading your posts, I don't think that was enough.

Last night I washed 4 of them at 95 degrees plus a rinse. I will try those on DS tomorrow but will be SOO upset if this doesn't work!

Any thoughts on whether my 15oz microfibre inserts might be causing a problem?

inserts sound ok.... wouldn't have thought they would cause any probs!

NannyL · 06/10/2005 22:01

Ive herd where ecover AND fairy non bio were causing probs, surcare was better.

Obvioulsy it all depends on the child, but many peopl do find surcare better than the others!
