I have been looking at reusables- namely Bambino Mio but have had some negative comments about them. I have a toddler who is in nappies and he is over 18kgs and another baby on the way so need something that will do for the both of them.

TBH I find the whole idea really daunting and confusing and I am suffering from information overload! So some recommendations and why and maybe your experiences would be much appreciated thankyou.

prefolds are not great.

To use on both children I would recommend easy peasy bumbles, you fold them down for a newborn and use without any boosters and you can super boost for you older toddler

Here you want the "bumble" with nippa fastening and then air flow wraps in appropriate sizes.

I would also recommend finding a forum that is more into cloth than here and buying a few different 2nd hand nappies to try out and find out what you like cheaply.

there is a cloth nappy addicts and there are others out there but my knowledge on them is a bit out of date.

Prefolds CAN be great if a) you know how to fold them and b) you secure them on with a Nappi Nippa so you don't get leakage from the nappy to the wrap

I'd stay away from the Mio's tbh, I don't know anyone who likes them!

I have a toddler and baby and I use pocket nappies, I have Bumgenius (V3 and V4) and Wonderoos (V1 and V2) and they are great. I can use the poppers to change the size to fit each DD, really easy. I just wash them, stuff in the insert and put on like I would a disposable, even DH uses them. So much easier than a two part nappy in my experience.

Happy nappy hunting, its very addictive!

I got my mio's super cheap on ebay for my newborn and they are pretty good, yes you go through quite a few wraps as runny poops tend to escape onto the wrap but she's too tiny for my Little Lambs and Tots Bots so these are a really good cheap option for the first few weeks :) I'm going to use the prefolds with pocket nappies later on and I use them on the changing mat so they will get lots of use. I think the best thing is to have a mix of different nappies so there is always something to hand. :D

My DS was in reusables full time, and still is at night (nearly 5) but I never got on with prefolds, even as a NB - in fact they nearly put me right off altogether. I dont know if you will find anything which will cover a toddler and a NB - the absorbancy needed is so different, and something which will fit a toddler through the crotch will swamp a tiny. Id get onto one of the nappy forums - such as cloth nappy addicts or cloth nappy tree, or the used nappy co, and buy yourself a selection of sized fitteds or pockets/AIOs at least they will be cheap and you can resell them to get the next lot. Probably wont be long before they are both in larges, although of course they may both be different shapes!
