Baby swimming nappy systems

Was wondering what the best nappy system is to use for baby swim classes. My DD will be about 4-5 months when we start.

I know of the huggies little swimmers - do you just use these on their own or do you need something to go over them?

Have also read about the 'happy nappy' system.

Does anyone have any experience of these or other systems and can recommend which is best?

Many thanks!

My 10mo attends swimming lessons where he is required to wear a disposable swim nappy with a happy nappy over the top.
For family swimming trips we just use a huggies little swimmer nappy which is fine.
So far not had any poo experiences but would guess both were only really suited to solids/quick sprints to the changing room!

I've taken DS swimming since he was 8 weeks old , have always only used the Huggies Little Swimmers and have never had an 'accident'. I would say they're fine unless you're going to a class that specifically requires babies to wear a certain type of nappy.

Oh, and he's always had a neoprene 'body warmer' so that he can last about 30 minutes in the pool.

DS has been going swimming since he was 12 weeks, and we've used the 'double nappy' system - Huggies Little Swimmers with a Happy Nappy over the top.

We had to use 2 nappies for the class, but it has been useful. The swim nappies were a little big at first, but the Happy Nappy kept everything in place.

We've had no accidents so far (touch wood), and the one pooey nappy hadn't leaked.

Enjoy your swim classes. I think they are brilliant. DS loves being in the pool - see my profile pics :)

I'd use the huggies little swimmers nappy with something over the top (I use a splash about baby wetsuit as keeps baby warm) If they do poo whilst in the water and it leaks they may have to shut the pool to clean it out-be very embarrassing. Using 2 nappies there's less chance of leakage!

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Think I will go with huggies little swimmers and prob also get a happy nappy to go over the top so I won't be worrying (too much) about leaks when we're in the pool!

Many thanks.

I've just bought a Tots Bots washable swim nappy for DS, one size fits birth to potty. £25 in Tesco. It's great, it has velcro and poppers to make it smaller. Haven't tried it yet, but use washable nappies anyway, so don't think there will be any leakages. Huggies Little Swimmers seemed very expensive to me, and the rate at which DS is growing, he'd not use a full pack before needing the next size!!

That was £15 in Tesco, ooops!

I use the splash about happy nappy reusable inner with a liner then a happy nappy over the top, have never had any leaks and it just goes straight in the washing machine. It'd be cheaper than the tots bots, think it was about £7.

i use little swimmers then a all in one swimsuit for my 4 month old - my friend just used swim nappy and baby shivered and got cold even tho it was a baby swim session- i think most mums can tell as soon as there darling does a poo and i intend to whip mine outa the pool instantly! and we share a pack of little swimmers cus they will grow out of them b4 u use them all

trixie123 · 28/01/2011 19:49

I use the Huggies ones with some sort of swimming costume / trunks on top and they are fine. Can absolutely guarantee they hold in the poo as well. Was getting DS changed after his lesson and the ONE time I didn't check first and was a little distracted while pulling them off they were FULL of poo that got everywhere, the floor, the bench, my hands. One of those uuurrrgggghhhh moments! But the nappy worked!
