Helping dd, five, concentrate better- how?

Things like- reading book from school gets tricky, brother suddenly very interesting, bit too focused on friend when gym instructor talking, not focusing on reading group at school when not her turn. How firm should I be on this? Or will it come in time? Can't always pick just the right moment for reading but I try. Teacher has previously said concentration not a problem in school.

Saw teacher about this today and decided several things to do, sone from her some from me. Going to limit television, not that she watches all the time , but still. And do two focused activities per day at time of my choosing. Not going to pick tricky times but it's about encouraging concentration when it's not always a time of dd's choosing. And praise concentration a lot. Teacher agrees that she can lack focus, that it's not yet an issue but worth attention now to nip in the bud. Any other suggestions welcomed.

Maybe a silly suggestion but I give mine Sainsbury's own vitamins with added Omega 3 which is supposed to help concentration.

They seem to like them too :)

jigsaw puzzles (first very easy ones and then progressively more difficult), teaching her to properly draw things by carefully looking at things (not just colouring), audio cds rather than dvds. I think it will time, she is still very young, but build it up in small steps and should stay fun. Also, lots of praise if she completes things like puzzles, drawings, etc.

That's interesting. My DD can be a bit like that at times. I'm going to steal some ideas.

And Good luck, btw!
