8 month old will no longer settle

My 8 month old DD was a great sleeper from about 6 weeks, but now she's almost impossible to settle in the evenings. She was able to go down awake in her cot, but now she just screams, and won't let me leave her. She's tired and cranky from about 6, and the only thing that settles her is a cuddle from my DH when he gets in at 11. Me cuddling her doesn't help.
I have 2 other children to see to and am on my own in the evenings as DH is at work. In the day, DH looks after them and I work. This has been going on for weeks now, and I'm getting desperate.
Any advice would be appreciated.

is she napping during the day at all?

Has anything changed in her routine that would throw her out like this?

If she wants comfort from your DH maybe he could carry around a comfort toy with him until it has his scent and you could give that to her in the evenings?
