8:30pm

mollymax · 23/12/2010 20:14

My nearly 12 year old dd, goes up to bed at 8 pm with lights out at 9 pm, after sorting out school stuff etc for about 30 minutes then 30 minutes of reading.
Later during school holidays.

my boys, 11 and nearly 10
go upstairs at 8 - 8.30, lights off 9pm.
Later during holidays

My 11 year old ( in year 7) has lights out at 8.30 in term time. To be honest he needs to go then, senior school is wearing him out! Scout night is always later as they don't finish until 9pm.

Holidays are rather more casual!

Wallace · 23/12/2010 20:17

8.30, lights out at 9. Is allowed to listen to radio til 9.30

starfishmummy · 23/12/2010 20:20

DS is just 12. Usually 8pm - sometimes he is asking to go earlier. Doesn't always go straight tom sleep; talks to himself for ages!

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 23/12/2010 20:22

I am finding this all very interesting because we are all more or less the same, and according to DS everyone his age goes to bed at 10pm!!

MemooMerrilyOnHigh · 23/12/2010 20:23

DD is nearly 12, she goes up at 8 and is allowed to read until 9pm. On a weekend she stay up til 9 and reads til 10.

Dumbledoresfairy · 23/12/2010 20:25

My nearly 11 year old goes to bed at 9. Sometimes a bit later in the holidays, but generally not.

I set 9 as the time as I remember I went to bed at 9 when I was 11.

She may read for a bit having gone to bed - I admit I don't really know Blush

Surely bedtime is dependent though on what time the child has to wake up?

HSMM · 23/12/2010 20:32

Lights out at 9 here, but she is often awake longer

hippipotamiHasLost92lbs · 23/12/2010 20:38

Ds is 11 and in Y7. He goes up at 8.30 but is allowed to read until 9.

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 23/12/2010 20:45

Our DC have to get up by 6.30 during term time, and I always seem to have to wake them.

zandy · 23/12/2010 20:54

ds will be 12 in a week, and he goes up at nine. sometimes gets an extra half hour if he is interested in a programme or doing something exciting. We have no problem getting him up in the morning so it suits him.

peacenow · 23/12/2010 21:10

Thanks guys all really helpful replies, now just need to apply it in my house!!

DS (11) is reading over my shoulder. He says he goes to bed at nine but 'can't get to sleep until 12' Wink

PlonkerForLifeNotJustChristmas · 23/12/2010 21:50

My dd is almost 11. Bedtime varies.

I only pick her up from her hobby at 9pm three times a week, so she's usually in bed and asleep by 10pm on those nights (2 of those, are unfortunately, school nights).

The other school nights she goes up at around 8.30 and is usually asleep by 9pm.

Weekends and holidays tend to be a little later, but never any later than 10pm.

It's not ideal, but that's the way it has to be for dd.

Wallace · 24/12/2010 07:10

Very interesting how these bedtimes are all almost the same - my ds also says everyone else goes to bed later!

On school days he gets up about 8 which just gives him enough time. Funnily enough at weekends he is often up just after 7 Hmm

tabulahrasa · 24/12/2010 11:00

my 10 year old goes to bed between half eight and nine and my fourteen year old goes for a shower between half nine and ten (he's supposed to be in bed for half ten, but the showers are currently taking longer and longer, lol)

Madsometimes · 26/12/2010 14:18

My 10 year old also has lights out at 8.30. She maintains that she has the earliest bedtime in her Y6 class.

Greeninkmama · 26/12/2010 18:37

This thread has made me really happy! I thought I was being a horrible SM for making my DSS go to bed at 8 when he was 10 - turns out I am normal. Now he is 12 and goes to bed at 9. Just like all of yours. Brilliant - guilt lifted.

autodidact · 26/12/2010 18:41

9pm on school nights
