How long did you have your LO in just babygrows?

Hello,

I'm just wondering really, my DS is 7 weeks old and up till now he's just been wearing babygrows. I've popped him in little jeans once, but to be honest he just looks uncomfortable.

I asked a friend about it and she said she's had her DS in 'day clothes' since he was born.

So how long did your LO's stay in babygrows before you introduced so called day clothes?

Oh a good while, and really only clothes for something very special.

Certainly nothing with buttons, tight waist bands etc. Just comfortable clothes. I sometimes stuck a frock on over a babygrow, instead of battle tights and long sleeved tops etc. I often leave one on under trousers.

If clothes helped babies tell the day from night they would be much more expensive, so that clearly isn't true! Xmas Grin

I am planning on babygrows all the way - Im hardly the voice of experience but I'd love to be in a comfy all in one thing all day!! Grin
Is it possible to put a small baby in tights?! some one has brought us a lovely dress with tights but its 0-3 and to be fair I had no intention of putting our baby in anything other than soft stripey things until she is bigger - how big I dont know as we are first-timers- but surely the logistics of getting a wiggly new person into tights must be a mega task?! Hmm

HouseOfBambooootiful · 20/12/2010 15:09

It is just about possible to put a tiny baby in tights (I did it, but only once or twice Xmas Hmm ).

But tights are a nightmare for nappy changes, esp if poo leaks. Also, baby dresses are sweet, but baby girls just lie there flashing their gussets - imo dresses work MUCH better once they can stand up!

The whole concept of little legs going everywhere while I try and shovel her into the tights fills me with fear!! And she hasnt been born yet! Grin

Thanks for restoring my faith in my own opinion that babygrows rock and I am not some kind of failure for not even wanting to attempt tights!!

Phew, I was starting to wonder if I had taken my 'slack Mummy' status too far as 9 week old DS has only ever worn babygrows (with the occasional pair of dungarees over the top if I am feeling uber motivated).

Glad to see I am not some weird freak of nature for not wanting to put him in sailor suits etc.

luckykitty · 20/12/2010 15:34

:) your style is my style antidote!

MoonUnitAlpha · 20/12/2010 16:00

I love the way ds looks in babygrows - so cute with a knitted cardi and bootees over it.

Antidote · 20/12/2010 17:35

Grin luckykitty, but I am wiling to bet you are waaaaaaaaaaaaay better dressed than me

luckykitty · 20/12/2010 18:55

hahahaha antidote i wouldnt bet on it, Im currently shuffling about in dungarees (which arent even mine ffs!) half done up as they are the only thing apart from leggings (cue epic camel toe) or pjs (item of choice for last 2 days) which still fit me and a very retro spiderman jumper! Im sooooo cool Grin

Hardly any time at all. I read the thing about day/night clothes and thought it was worth a go. We got given a ton of clothes - someone passed on a whole load of secondhand baby clothes so it was no extra cost or effort.

DS even wore jeans at a few weeks old and doesn't appear to have been scarred for life...Hmm

He didn't even wear babygrows at night past about 6 months as I hated all those bloody poppers! It was a nightmare trying to wrestle him into them, so he worse proper pyjamas (jersey trouser and t-shirt style).

Each to their own and all that but I do get a bit judgy when I see babies trying to toddle or cruise round furniture and tripping over the feet of their babygrow.

Rudolphsnose · 20/12/2010 19:07

With the DDs I couldn't resist the ridiculous dresses. DD1 was 6 days old when she wore her first one. With DS he was in either babygros or trackies ad t shirts until he was a year. Occasional outfits that the GPs etc bought him but mostly not.

Rudolphsnose · 20/12/2010 19:10

I should probably mentio that he is DC4 so things are a bit slacker/fuckit by then Blush

NinkyNonker · 20/12/2010 21:43

DD is only 4.5 months but I tend to have her in jersey seperates apart from for sleeping. She is long, so most 'one-pieces' are too short for her. All still baby clothes though, tried her in jeans the other day and she didn't look very confortable. Jo Jo Maman Bebe do some great baggy trousers with built in feet that she wears a lot.

YuleTideD0G · 20/12/2010 21:50

DD1, I think she was dressed in clothes denim and all Blush from day dot, I think I felt like she should wear clothes iyswim

DS1 wore mostly sleepsuits but the odd dungaree set till he was 1 ish maybe older

DD2 sleepsuits only till way past 6 months and still mostly sleepsuits till she was 15 months, she was diddy though and didn't walk for ages.

DS2 is 12 weeks and has never worn anything but sleepsuits he will probably go to school wearing a sleepsuit, precious last baby syndrome Xmas Grin

I absolutely hate seeing baby's wear proper clothes especially denim, so uncomfortable and no need whatsoever imo it just looks awful and makes baby difficult to hold when you are constantly pulling tops/dresses down and trousers up. I still change ds into a new sleepsuit for bed just as part of his routine

GMajor7SwansASwimming · 20/12/2010 22:10

Babygros are cute, cute cute!! DD is 11 months and still wearing at night time and if we aren't going out I put her in a lovely, comfy fleece sleepsuiut during the day You can't beat a plain white gro!

Liskey · 21/12/2010 09:11

Till about 6 months - they were a lot easier to get on/off and as DD had reflux a lot asier for washing.

bogie · 21/12/2010 09:28

With ds1 when I was younger and he was my first I put him in day clothes from about a week old, with dd1 she was about 5 months and with dd2 she is 9 months now and still mostly in babygrows.

BornToFolk · 21/12/2010 09:59

Oh, just remembered the other big reason for not using babygrows - DS was really sicky and needed several changes a day. It was much easier to just whip a t-shirt off and on rather than completely undress (and do up all those blooming poppers again!)

notasausage · 21/12/2010 13:52

Special occasions only until about 3 months then carefully chosen soft fabric dungarees, dresses or top/trousers with soft waistband. It's nice to get their feet out from time to time so they can discover different textures with their toes (and you can see the gorgeous little toes hidden by the babygro!!)

HouseOfBambooootiful · 21/12/2010 17:10

Yes I was always looking for footless babygros for the summer and when they started cruising, but had difficulty finding them. Someone ought to manufacture them!

tiredfeet · 21/12/2010 17:22

Ds still in babygros at ten weeks, probably will keep him in them a fair bit longer. He has been given lots of outfits but babygros are so much more practical and comfy. He does have some fleecy dungarees though which I use when I want him to look dressed (mainly for baby groups etc)

Porcelain · 21/12/2010 18:19

House, mothercare had nice shortie rompers in over summer, stripy ones in 2 packs. IIRC Jojo maman bebe does them, and little green radicals have funky ones, not cheap though.

Porcelain · 21/12/2010 18:20

Oh and I got some in matalan too, but they were a bit shoddy.

perfectstorm · 21/12/2010 23:32

6 months, and after that a vest with leggings until about 1. And he still sleeps in a babygrow at 2.

Tiny babies in jeans is awful IMO. I mean, I'd hate to sleep in jeans. And they get so windy and can't move to adjust themselves - must be like having a big meal, a tight waistband and not able to shift so you're comfy!

MoonUnitAlpha · 22/12/2010 07:57

I have footless babygrows from Boots and Mothercare - prefer ones with feet though as it solves the sock issue.
