How long did you have your LO in just babygrows?

Hello,

I'm just wondering really, my DS is 7 weeks old and up till now he's just been wearing babygrows. I've popped him in little jeans once, but to be honest he just looks uncomfortable.

I asked a friend about it and she said she's had her DS in 'day clothes' since he was born.

So how long did your LO's stay in babygrows before you introduced so called day clothes?

About 6 months. If she wasnt in those she was in top and soft trouser combos. Life is far too short to faff around with denim and dresses for small babies. I've just bought a couple for her for pyjamas and she's nearly 3. She loves them and they're so snuggly and warm.

WelshMaenad · 18/12/2010 21:29

zafrostypee, I build 'em tall and skinny and long in the body - M&S baby gros are the best fit by far IMO, you should try them.

WelshMaenad · 18/12/2010 21:30

Also, I managed to find fleecy all in ones in age 4-5 in Sainsburys for DD for Xmas and I'm thrilled. Mum and Dad brought her back a Disney princess printed fleecyfooted AIO from Florida and it's the BUSINESS, she looks right cute in it. She wanted to wear it to school but I felt that was taking it a bit far...

I had a mix of babygrows and tops/trousers for ds in 0-3 month size - in 3-6 month size I only bought babygrows, sick of trying to keep socks on! The only outfits he has are gifts from other people.

I'll be buying babygrows in 6-9 months size too, I don't think they need anything else til they're walking.

StarlightPrincess · 19/12/2010 10:22

Both of my DC's only wore babygrows inside the house, as pyjamas really. If I took them out anywhere I put 'proper' clothes on them. I couldn't resist, they look sooooo cute!

Sirzy · 19/12/2010 10:30

DS is 13 months and still wears them at bedtime most of the time. As he is still in - 9 month clothes and has loads of them in 9-12 and 12-18 he will be wearing them for sometime yet to!

Unless he is poorly though I always get him dressed into proper clothes during the day and have done since about 5 weeks. Then it was mainly because I had so many pretty outfits, I always go for "baby" outfits out of choice though.

togarama · 19/12/2010 11:47

Never considered this an issue. DD (22 months) wears a mix of clothes and babygrows and always has done.

Elsa123 · 19/12/2010 11:51

DD was diagnosed with a dysplastic hip 2 weeks ago and baby grows in her size became too small due to the position of her legs. So during the day when out and about she wears socks up to the knee as she can't wear tights or leggings. She then has a t-shirt on, a dress over the top and a cardigan. If we're bumming around at home or only going for dog walks she wears big fleecy sleepsuits and we change her into a cotton sleepsuit at night with a sleeping bag. I agree its helped her to understand night time and she's been sleeping through for a couple of weeks now. She's 9 weeks old.

If she'd not been wearing a hip harness she would have stayed in babygrows but we treated them as a layer and she often wore a dress and cardi over the top.

Rindercella · 19/12/2010 11:56

For as long as possible with DD2.

With DD1, I dressed her in 'proper' clothes every day. What a waste of time. With DD2 I said she would be just in babygros for the first 6 months and she mostly was (save for a couple of cotton dresses for special occasions). She's now nearly 9 months old and stays in babygros if we're knocking about at home. Put her in soft cotton dresses & tights for going out.

DD is 4 months and still in babygrows. She has a couple of pairs of soft dungarees but apart from that it's babygrows all the way - always go for bright, funky colours and have had various compliments.

Much easier to layer up in this weather too!

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 19/12/2010 14:47

I thought as much, I think he'll be in babygrows for some time to come. They're less faff when changing nappies as well.

about 3 mths, both times. if we are staying in, might just leave him in it and shove a cardi on.

lurcherlover · 19/12/2010 15:12

DS is 7 weeks and if we're in the house he's always in a babygro. Out and about I try to put him in a little outfit, but only something comfy - I love the knitted all-in-ones M&S do, and he's got some very soft, fleecy dungarees which he wears with a bodysuit under. I totally agree with the no-denim rule - when he's a teenager I'm sure I won't be able to get him to wear anything else, but while he's a baby I want him to look like a baby! Babygros are adorable - John Lewis have absolutely gorgeous ones, and while they're a bit dearer than other places they're not outrageous - £12 for 3, and the colours/fit are great.

mamasunshine · 19/12/2010 15:16

ds1 4months, ds2 6months and dc3 will prob be in just baby grows for longer!

SkyBluePearl · 19/12/2010 20:42

to about 6 months during the day - to 3 years at night I'd love to be wearing one myself right now in this cold weather!

EsmeWeatherwax · 19/12/2010 21:23

Until about 6 mo with both dd1 and 2, I had so many gorgeous brightly coloured ones, since next were the only brand that fitted either of them. Wish I could have another wee girly to get them all out again! DD2 is now 20 mo, and still wears a fleecy sleepsuit a lot during the day in our current inclement weather.

sparkleshine · 19/12/2010 22:20

DS was in babygrows only til about 3 months old during the day, then we started putting him in soft comfy clothes more often.

He looked so cute dressed, and he's always looked like a little boy so clothes suited him moreIYKWIM. There was no denim allowed til about 5 months when he started to sit up himself. I also thought he looked strange in babygrows outside.

He is still in babygrows at night and he's just turned 1. I got him some pj's in the last asda baby event for 12-18 months but not yet tried them.

Cosmosis · 20/12/2010 09:52

DS is 15 weeks and now has a couple of pairs of dungarees, but it's still mostly babygrows. I have an irrational hatred of babyclothes with waists, I think they look so uncomfortable, and I can't be doing with taking off trousers every time a nappy needs changing.

Porcelain · 20/12/2010 13:15

Babies don't have waists, it's like trying to fit trousers on a sausage! Also if the waist is too stiff or tight it can make them sick, especially if they are full and being sat in a car seat or the like.

containher · 20/12/2010 14:17

Oh baby grows day and night until they were about 4 months- I think jeans on a newborn look daft!

Udderly · 20/12/2010 14:28

6 weeks after childbirth I'm just about in 'day clothes' myself! :)

HouseOfBambooootiful · 20/12/2010 14:31

Definitely nothing BUT babygros before 6 months, apart maybe the odd showing off poncey party outfit or something.

Anything else is just uncomfortable, a waste of money and ridiculous. Small babies' bodies don't look right in trousers, tights and skirts.

The thing about telling day from night is utter nonsense. Under a year babies nap all the time anyway, so what's the point of having special sleep clothes?

REALLY don't get the thing about them somehow not being 'smart' enough for daywear. They're babies ffs! As long as they aren't covered in poo and sick stains, babygros look perfectly nice dressed up with a soft cardigan or jacket.

After about 6 months very soft elasticated jogging bottom type things are fine, but not anything jeans-like till they are walking.

This issue makes me irrationally stroppy and opinionated too Xmas Grin

GrizzlyMacDuff · 20/12/2010 14:35

both children, until 6 months at least, perhaps a bit less with dd, although we put her pretty dresses on over her babygros, as it was winter. but with ds, even now at jst over one year old we don't always put trousers on him. or if we do it is over the babygros again. he has lovely padded and warm babygros, so comfy with good grippers on the feet and zips, no reason to put him in anything else really.

GrizzlyMacDuff · 20/12/2010 14:41

oh and rompers my little boy is just adorable in rompers. He wears them a lot. bought some lovely ones from blue zoo recently. just gorgeous
