Crusty ears?

Really random question. DS is 4 months now, and about a month or so ago I noticed he had crusty bits behind his ears. Deciding I was clearly a terrible skank of a mother, I put moisturiser on the area to loosen the crusty bits, then have made a concerted effort to always clean behind his ears every day. He still gets it.

DH reckons it's from his milk when he feeds, but I'm sure that runs onto his neck, not behind his ears, and surely daily washing would stop that getting nasty.

Is this normal, or does my child have some bizarre ear crust issue?

my ds gets it too, i think all babies do, we use olive oil.

It's normal my son had that for ages. Just keep it clean and moisturise. I don't know if it's caused by milk though!

My DS (now 2) got this when he was little. It went away eventually, but now comes back from time to time. I do wonder what it is, but I'm pretty sure it's not milk. I clean it off with a flannel and warm water.

Oh good, I never understood why people go on about cleaning behind your ears, as mine are always very clean as far as I can tell, without extra attention; now I do. Babies are odd.

My hv said that it's cradle cap, it can spread all over the head, try not to pick it it will clear up of it's own accord

i use vaseline, leave on for 10 mins, then wipe off with a tissue

wannabeglam · 11/12/2010 12:08

I used Aveeno to soften it up. It just needs to be kept soft.

My ds had that. I put a little bit of sudocrem on it and it went away.
