Brilliant ideas for keeping gloves on an 11 month old please...???

DD obviously not co operative with the whole glove thing...Have attatched them with elastic to her coat, which means we haven't yet lost pair number 4, but no chance of keeping them on her hands..With DS I probably didn't bother as he always took them off but it's super cold at the moment and her little hands were like ice blocks today...Any new invention I don't know about..???

Last year this worked:

Thick slipper socks (ie tube socks) on to above elbows before putting the jacket on.

Unfortunately DS is now 2.5 and wants to wear mittens to match his hat.

Sometimes if you have adjustable wrists on the coat you can tighten them up enough but my junior Houdini's could always escape.

I have seen some mittens with very long cuffs that might work

but basically no, you just have to join the legions of mothers who get dirty looks from people in the post office who then tell you it's cold and she should have gloves on.

You don't, it is an impossible task. You just wrap a blanket round them in the buggy and keep it pulled up to their chin in an effort to keep hands underneath it.

Took ds until he was 3 to think about sometimes keeping gloves on. Dd is nearly 2 thuogh and doesn't seem to mind them.

Have she got any knee high socks? Put them on her hands and pull up to the armpits...

Not gloves but much better than nothing.

Either that or you have to sew buttons and loops to the gloves and coat and button her in.

Long socks. If you've got time to add a couple of eyes and a tongue to each, to make sock puppets, she might even want to keep them on.

my 11 month old surprised me that he doesn't even try to take his gloves off and doesn't mind them, so he makes life easy for me but before i realised he would actually keep them on, if it was a cold day i was putting him in a snow suit with the fold over hand mitten things as i find they are less likely to take it off? not sure how easy it is to find suits or coats with those on for the bigger ages but ds one is from tesco

I got a fleecy snow suit from jojomamanbebe, not only do they have turn over hands for my 16 month old, but also turn over feet for the boy who refuses to wear socks or sit with his legs under the cosytoes

Put gloves/mitten on a string to go through the coat

String needs to be slightly too short, so that once the mittens are on there is not enough slack in the string for a baby to take the mittens off

Mine's a strategy for long term success rather than immediate results.

Make sure I'm always wearing gloves when I want DS to. Show & tell him that I'm wearing them because it's cold. Then put his on and tell him he needs to wear them because it's cold. When he pulls them off, repeat all of the above. And again. And again.

He's not too bad with gloves (hat refusal is a worse problem here) but I work on the basis that children want to copy adults so I need to model the behaviour I want from him.

I gave up in the end with gloves and resorted to a coat that was far to big and hands didn't pop out the sleeves that way the hands were tucked away quite nicely. I also found when DC were slightly bigger they preferred proper gloves rather than mittens as they liked having fingers was a absolute faff but at least they kept them on.

Not sure if this would work for others, but we made a game of 'finding our thumbs' and sticking them up when my toddler has his mittens on (21 months). He thinks he's very clever for finding his thumbs
