I still feel really bad about this

this morning my DD2 fell forwards out of her car seat and smashed her head on the fireplace. I feel terrible that I didn't strap her in. She has a huge bump and bruise on her forehead and I am worried about her. I think shes' ok. She's eaten and had a nap and played an giggled and smiled and acted normally since the accident(once I stopped her screaming) but I'm soooooooo paranoid that she's not ok. Any advice tips on what I could do, refresh my memory on what to be on the lookout for please. Feeling a bit wobbly

Sleepiness/drowsiness is one of the things to look out for. Are her pupils ok? How old is she?

trinityrocks · 23/09/2005 16:38

she's 5 1/2 months and her pupils look normal, she didn have a 1/2 hour nap not long ago which is normal timing for her

She sounds ok, really. I know how you feel though. Poor both of you.

From memory I think vomiting, excessive sleepiness and generally seeming "not herself" would be the signs to watch out for - and it doesn't sound as if she's got any of those.

Try not to worry - things like this happen to all of us (or to our kids, I should say).

Aw, I'm sure she'll be fine. I think something like this happens to everyone so don't feel bad. I can't remember where I read it but I remember reading about one mother whose baby had toppled off a double bed and landed head first in a wastepaper basket.

marthamoo · 23/09/2005 17:26

I fell asleep with ds2 on the bed once and woke up to an almighty wail as he rolled off and hit the floor Should have put a wastepaper basket there to catch him. Oh and ds1 fell down the stairs...

Also - I think bumps to the back of the head are potentially more dangerous than to the front. Don't feel bad, TR - there will be lots more bumps!

My eldest took the youngest up the top bunk when baby was 6 months old. I was in the kitchen and she just picked her up from the front room (she was 8 at the time) and took her up there. Needless to say dd4 fell of the top bunk

A trip to hospital revealed nothing wrong and the shock of it all was enough to make dd1 never do it again
