poo at the roadside

We have a long walk back from nursery about a mile and today we were half way home and ds said "big one coming", so I whipped his pants down and sat him on the verge to poo, next to a line of traffic. I am mortified, what am I supposed to do when this happens? Can anyone advise me on what to do?

you can get little fold up potty things which have a bag attached to collect the wee/poo. Could you carry one of these with you?
