Hi,

My baby is 5 weeks tomorrow and has started getting spots on her face, I know this is normal but I wondered how long they last? She also has some dry skin on her face so all in all her complexion is not great at the mo! Is there anything I can do for the dry skin on her face?will the spots clear by themselves or should I be doing something to help them along?

Thanks.

What are the spots like? Little white things (in which case probably normal)? I would ask next time you get her weighed just to check it's not a rash which needs treatment.

Dry skin: olive oil.

Completely normal.

It's hormonal and will probably pass, quite quickly, on its own. Use a little olive oil or almond oil if you want to put something on it. Just be careful not to put it too near her eyes.

We have used olive oil on her body but wondered about using it on her face! It's particularly dry on eyelids so am guessing we can't use anything there?

The spots are proper little spots, not quite whiteheads but like that! I'm sure I remember my niece getting them as a baby, I thought they were normal?

I put olive oil on dry skin and cleansed facial spots with cotton wool and water.

mine 8 weeks now had spots at 3 weeks - paniked n took him 2 dr - perfectly normal!!! cleared after about 2 weeks

did put olive oil on face between eyes by rubbing it in my hands first but dry skin absorbed yellow olive oil n looked terrible! resorted to bodyshop body butter for babys and cleared in 3 days!!

Olive oil made my ds1 worse, but turned out he had eczema in the end. Ds2 had a similar thing on his face and all over his neck, little yellow pimples, really yucky, and I panicked that he was going to get eczema too but it just went away and his skin is lovely. Just wait. If it's not going in a week or so then maybe the doc.

My DS's hadn't cleared up after about four weeks and the doctor recomended aqueous cream and they cleared up within days.
