Advice on big bed for toddler

Hi all, our son is now 20 mths and we're mulling over what to do about beds (I noticed a couple of posts on this, so obviously a popular theme Smile ). He's currently in a cot and we also have a cotbed available on loan.

But both DH and I have noticed that DS really likes his space and LOVES sleeping (runs in the family, thank heavens) so we were thinking that when he needs to move from cot to bed we should just buy him a big bed and by that I mean a really big bed, say 4ft (a small double effectively).

Has anyone else done this and if so, with what result? I did think that even if we got a big bed, we didn't necessarily have to get a big duvet so that he doesn't get totally lost in it AND we probably won't do this whole move thing for a couple of months.

Anyway, any thoughts welcome Mia

The only thing with a wide bed would be if he got used to all the space & then you went somewhere with a 'normal' single & he rolled out !? I wouldn't have thought the size of the bed was an issue - unless he gets lost under the covers.
