Bathing a baby

Hi,

I was told not to bath my baby too often at the beginning due to the natural oils on her skin being so good for her. She is now 4 weeks, can we start bathing her daily now? She really likes the bath and we'd like to use it as the start of a bedtime routine.

Thanks

start off with plain water and see how her skin reacts. My DS has been fine with a daily bath but others not so.

We've only used plain water so far and wasn't intending on adding Anything to the water yet.

I mean this in a non judgy way but why do you want to bathe her everyday? IMO they definitely don't need it as they're not doing anything do get dirty, their skin can dry out quite quickly if bathed daily, and also have you got the time/energy to do it?

Your DC might be a dreamchild and mine's not bad but I know by the end of the day I'm knackered and so doing an extra task that isn't necessary didn't appeal to me. My DS has a bath 4 times a week and sometimes has a little impromtu one if she decided to puke up her lunch in her hair - nice!

Give it a try if you want to.

She seems to like it and like I said we'd like it to be part of her bedtime routine - bath, milk, bed. Is it ok to bath her this often?

Yes I did this with DS2 from really early on as he loves the bath and it's great for getting them into a bedtime routine. He hasnt' shown signs of eczema yet (after 7 months of daily baths!) even though DS1 and I are terribly prone to dry skin. I use soap every three washes or so, shampoo about once a week.

I did with my DD. Just used plain water. Then we did baby massage with olive oil after her bath once I had done the classes. It was a nice time of day for us then. Now at ten months I end up wetter than her!

if she doesn't have any sensitive skin issues then why not, go for it. many people do bath every day from that age or earlier. of course if you see her skin is getting dried out or any kind of exema type issues then reconsider the situation but otherwise i wouldnt hesitate, esp as she enjoys and i do think it helps for the bedtime routine its like a sleep cue? i always bathed mine daily since that age and has not been an issue - its fine (and i use products on them too which is fine for them as not sensitive skin or exema)

I've done a daily bath with all 3 children from a very young age. They've always loved it, it's a nice way of getting into a bedtime routine and for me it's a way of breaking up the evening.

No skin issues, just lots of splashy fun!!!!!

Yep, agree with others - I did daily bath from quite early on as nice bedtime routine.

Started with plain water, added baby bath stuff at around 3 months, now back to plain water as her skin was dry and this completely sorted it out.
