Already got a boy and nappy changing was no problem as everything on the outside. Baby girl born this morning and has had an amazing amount of muconium since. Please tell me how/how much to clean her bits.

Congratulations!!!

Wipe gently from front towards the back with cotton wool and water only, no creams or soaps.

Cotton balls, warm water.

Always wipe down wards, if you wipe upwards you will be drawing poo upto the vulva.

I always started around the thighs, then bottom,

then the vulva.

is she has poo inside her vulva just gently draw the wet cotton wool along the crevis.

and dry with dry cotton wool.

I was the same after 2 boys but now its a doddle, even with a wiggling toddler, does look daunting though!

Just use wet cotton wool and gently wipe everything, including inside until there's no mess left. If you don't clean inside the labia you could cause rashes/infections. Even with a wee you need to clean inside to remove the residue.

It won't hurt her to gently open the labia to check and wipe - some baby girls have slightly fused labia so it helps to solve that too.

Has anyone warned you that she will have some red staining (looks like blood) on her nappy at some point in the next few days? It's totally normal but surprised me as no one told me it would happen.
