My 4 month old daughter has a very bad cold she's had it for over a week now, been doctors twice with her and they've told me not to worry but its just getting worse. She's coughing so much she's almost choking she's rejecting her feeds and just looks and sounds so unwell. Any suggestions? Should I go back to my gp?

Yes go back to GP.

BertieBasset · 11/11/2010 12:54

Yes def - 4 months is too little to be waiting about and it might be going into a chest infection. Get her an appointment today

If she's getting worse and rejecting feeds then go back- insist on an emergency appointment. If you're not happy with the GP's response then insist on a second opinion.

I would take her to A&E.

Go back to GP and see someone else. Has she got a temperature? If she has then it's urgent.

My DS (14 months) went to the Doc last Monday we were told 'just a cold', told the same on Thursday.I went back again on Friday we saw a different Doc and were sent straight to the Children's Ward where we spent 3 days with him on oxygen and IV antibiotics; he had pneumonia Shock.

I had the same issue and saw my pediatrician a couple of times about it. My DD didn't have temperature but was bunged up, sneezing and coughing, it lasted about 3 weeks but apparently is quite normal as they just don't have any immune system to fight off the germs. What doesn't help is if they're teething or very drooley babies aswell as they find that and the coldy fluids hard to swallow.

How is she today DaniJade1990? Hope you managed to see someone yesterday.

Highlighterpen- that is frightening- good job you listened to your instincts and not the original doctor.

Thank you everyone. Well I knew there was something wrong as her breathing had to extremely weezy so I took her back to my GP who referred her to the hospital. Turns out she's got bronchitis!! She's doing really well though and should be able to go home today! So glad I went with my instints!

Hi DaniJade. Great news that you have got the treatment your little girl needed. Also very pleased to hear she is much better Smile.

Hope you get some sleep tonight!

Thank goodness you went in. Seriously, if you are worried and the GP is being useless always just bypass them and go to A&E.

I have so much experience of GPs missing very serious illnesses.
