16 mnth pinching me

My DD is now nearly 17 months old. When she's annoyed or doesn't want to do something she pinches my face hard, grabs a lot of flesh and squeezes as hard as she can with a really cross look on her face.

I just have no idea how to stop her doing it. She is a very affectionate little girl, gives me lots of hugs and kisses but she seems to have a bit of vicious streak!

I am not sure how to approach it as I have tried pretending to cry, which made her cry, being cross, which had no effect at all, or telling her to be gentle, which she does but still pinches really hard.

Any suggestions?

You pick her up, put her across the room and walk away saying 'No! We do not pinch!'

Repeat as necessary.

yes, and also you can take her arms, lower them to by her sides, hold them there while looking in her eyes and saying "NO pinching."

Then let go of her arms. If she comes at you again, grab the arms again, lower them to her sides, hold them there and look at her and say "NO"

repeat until when you let go of her arms, she does not try to pinch you again.

If you have a playpen you could say "NO pinching" as you pick her up and put her in there.

gently, closely and calmly say no - then walk off and ignore her for a few mins- she is presently getting far too much attention for bad behaviour.

My DD is probably a couple of weeks older than yours, and she sometimes thinks it fun to mini-slap me in the face/chest !

I hold her arms, hold my finger up wagging style and say, "no, we don't hit people". I let go (and she does it again). I say it again lower and more sternly and with a crosser look on my face.

She does it again, I say very sternly, "if you hit mummy, mummy will put you down on the floor" (point to floor).

She then does it again and I put her straight down on the floor quite brusquely and walk off as if I am cross.

She then looks very sheepish! I wait a minute or two then I go back over and we "make up" and play with something - she doesn't usually hit again that day, so although I can't stop her with just a warning, it does have some effect.
