The childcare grant

I want to go back to university but of course the killer is the childcare. If I can't get eh childcare grant then I am not even going ot apply but the problem is, there is no cut off point for who gets it, they do it on your income vs your outgoings (mortgate, council tax, insurance policies etc.) so I still don't really know if we would get it.

If it isn't being too nosey, who gets it and about how much income do you have?

i have just finished with the hell that is the childcare grant. i was unemployed and DH take home pay (which they judge you on) is £12300pa. mortgage is £540pm rates 63pm home insurance 33. thats all they take into consideration as outgoings. They then take whats left take away "allowances" for DC DP etc then get a grand total and then they take that grand total away from what childcare is per year and they will pay you that much. its really really tight. if they work out you have more than 6k disposable income a year then you don't get it. but their disposable income calculations do not take into consideration debts, food, clothing, car costs etc. i had made a cockup and put down DH pre tax earning and they said that i would probably only get a thousand a year for childcare. i pay £150 a week. thats not even a semester.

hope this helps but they are bastards when it comes to childcare and they know that it is the biggest worry for parents wanting to go back to education and that it really would put parents off from going.
