Critical appraisal - any tips please?

I'm struggling with this assessment.

I've been given a paper from the 80s and need to write an appraisal of 2000 words.

Much of the reference list is not available, either online or at the library. Does anyone know of science databases that include literature as far back as the 60s? I've tried science direct and web of knowledge.

I need to discuss the impact factor of the journal the article was published in, but it was superseded several years ago. I can find one list but I can't verify the year in which it was calculated. Further, I'm not sure if I should use the impact factor of the current publication.

It's an unfamiliar subject, and I can't find any reference books that discuss it in detail. Any recommendations of comprehensive physiology books?

Any guidance would be much appreciated, thanks.

You may have already checked these, if not try Informaworld; Project Muse, JSTOR or Wiley.

I'm not studying a science, but a lot of the JSTOR stuff has really old journals (going back to the 50s) for the subject I study.
